Almost nothing you read or consume as truth should be trusted. When you're told things, you need to do what you can to verify them.

Mathematics textbooks? The proofs are in writing, you can verify them. Physics and Chemistry? There's labs for those things. Psychology? Mostly fucked anyway. Computer Science? Write a program yourself to verify what's claimed. News media? Discard anything that's not an original source. History? Read original sources, distrust "history textbooks."

You have to think for yourself.
