Someone I knew took his own life, and I might've been able to stop him if I hadn't assumed it was a joke. It ate me alive for almost two years dude. It was a completely in-character comment for him "haha, my job sucks and my life is going nowhere and everything sucks. I'm going to go blow my brains out haha!". Except he was hurting for real. I still think about it, especially when I make up stories like this one, which I fabricated completely. I can make jokes, see?
