@allison @nik @elementals yeah, this is something I've noticed with fedi compared to like, discord servers. it's trivially easy to make and then delete a discord server, or move to a different one. I've never realized until recently how insidious that platform is but it really is just a fucking horrible optimization of making everything about the internet as trivial as possible

fedi on the other hand, I hate fedi for the most part but running an instance and having at times even a tiny amount of users I've had a responsibility to has made me feel way more incentivized to stick with it. and it's slowly paid off over time even if the majority of the registered accounts on here posted like a handful of times and then left. it still very much feels like fighting an uphill battle though and that saddens me
