Oh yeah, myriads of these files are a mess, I've been trying to figure out why it behaves differently on two machines with identical .vimrc once and it turned out that it kept loading some files from the depths of /usr/share/vim — this is a fucking mess, I barely managed to track it down.
TBH I seldomly need all this fancy shit and at times I even run it without any config, especially on machines with limited resources. I'd probably be fine even with busybox'es vi, but it doesn't have any clipboard buffer at all — and when using it on dumb terminal (often the case), other options aren't really …an option :marseyemojismilemouthcoldsweat:
And yes, its system clipboard fuckery pisses me of immensely too — why did they do that? I don't know — for me it has never been useful, not one time :marseyshrug:
