After Citizens United there was much less they COULD do because now they NEEDED the oligarchs and corporations to give them SOMETHING. But the oligarchs and capitalists only care about growing wealth by any means and actually hate the freedoms implied in a liberal order. The dems cut a deal with the devil. and here we are.
