Philip Cardella@HistoPol it's all very unsettling. The GOP has flirted for 50 years with illiberal ideas and finally started implementing them under Reagan. They've spent decades allowing increasingly illiberal forces run the party. There are so many places the GOP could have stopped this (Gingrich was a major turning point for the worse) but they didn't because their laisse faire horse shit doesn't work for most people so they couldn't win that way.
