@thomasfuchs latency != throughput. I hear the ISS has a ~1s latency, but ~1Gbps throughput. I wouldn't be surprised if Mars has a similarly weird balance. An email attachment image might be barely a blip in the throughput, but I often think about what would need to go into building a usable "offline"/high latency internet. Email might be one of the easier bits, but what does web browsing even look like?
