I've just done a thread about signing up at https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110923388035767741

You can import content from YouTube to PeerTube, either by manually reuploading the video files or automatically grabbing them from your YouTube channel.

Uploading manually gets you the best quality because it is the original, whereas importing from YouTube means it has been reprocessed/degraded by Google.

(The instructions for importing are at https://docs.joinpeertube.org/use/channel-sync)

As I posted yesterday, the easiest way to follow and interact with PeerTube accounts is from your existing account on Mastodon etc (thread is here: https://mstdn.social/@feditips/110917553420332553). However, if you want to publish videos on PeerTube you will need a PeerTube account. This can be either on someone else's PeerTube server, or you can start your own PeerTube server. You cannot use your Mastodon account on PeerTube. Signing up for PeerTube is where it gets a tiny bit more complicated than Mastodon etc. 1/4
