I buy "normal" popcorn, not microwave variety. Put some oil on the pot (I use basic vegetable oil. Olive oil burns at too low temperature), put the stove at maximum, wait for the popping to stop and turn it off.
That takes less than five minutes in total, requires no maintenance on my part apart and avoids added flavours and fat on instant popcorn.
