Sure they entered the market but I guess market is borderline nonexistent, as most """mac gamers""" are probably "hardcore" candy crush players and gotten it from the appstore instead anyway.
The giveaway is the whole apple's "oh yeah you can do VR on macs now...
...but its valve who's actually gonna do it, we don't give a shit" and valve just pretty much deprecating whole thing a year later.
I mean proton, or parts of it, could run on macs, but the thing is that no one gives a shit at this point. Wine works, but for DX11 games you need to translate that shit into Vulkan, and macs ain't support that, sure you can translate Vulkan into Metal and that's possible, but then again who the fuck plays vidya on macs, they either play on windows or just install linux instead, and ones that have macs probably play candy crush and shit instead anyway, the way apple intended. I mean, apple doesn't give a single shit either, it's like, use Metal, bitch, because your other option is OpenGL which on macs at this point has way worse drivers than OpenGL on fucking linux in 2015 because, again, apple doesn't give a shit about games. And now it's deprecated. So if apple doesn't care, why should valve? I mean at the time it was a fun experiment on expanding beyond windows, but linux and foss is more cooperative by design...
At the end of the day, valve cared and still cares about linux because of steamdeck and because it's an escape route from windows prison, an escape route they can shape and influence. MacOS... literally no one gives a shit about it, at least for the purpose of games.
