The GOP has been a presumptively illegal organization since Watergate. Before and since then all presidential candidates were labeled as Nazis/Hitler, except maybe Supreme Allied Commander Eisenhower since that wouldn’t have flown. FDR even completely inverted reality by claiming in his 1944 State of the Union address that:

“[…] if history were to repeat itself and we were to return to the so-called “normalcy” of the 1920’s—then it is certain that even though we shall have conquered our enemies on the battlefields abroad, we shall have yielded to the spirit of Fascism here at home.”

That normalcy stung because it was an abrupt end to Wilson’s WWI frank fascism, which FDR’s New Deal turned up to 11 as soon as he got in the Oval Office.

Yet another way you can tell the GOPe is not a serious party is that they don’t realize or accept that the Left wants every one of them stone cold dead. They think their enemies make a serious distinction between Trump (who, I grant, they hate even more) and themselves.
