The false dichotomy you've created is totalitarianism or tribal warfare, and the abstract, unrealistic solution you've proposed is "everyone can live in harmony if we all be nice to each other."

And to be a good liberal you've thrown in a dash of snark against religion for no reason at all.

The sad truth is, this way of thinking IS what has historically empowered totalitarian regimes time and time again since the French Revolution to now.
