The entire "pride" in this context is weird, and it's best shown to be weird by the old Norm Macdonald bit, "My kid just graduated Harvard. He had a 4.0 GPA, is going to saw school and he sucks dicks. I'm so proud of him. He gets fucked in the ass. Proud."

Pride in being gay (or black or white or anything you didn't achieve) is fucked weird. Pride has always ever been about normalizing something that, at one time, failed a cultural fitness requirement.

It's not about feeling good in achievement, it's feeling good in what use to be morally unacceptable behavior. By it's very nature, it then requires other people accept that behavior as being morally acceptable. It's pretty subversive in what it's seeking to achieve.
