let's assume a worst case scenario: a pedophile comes to your town. they meet you, the watcher of children, who decides who gets to be in the room with them or not apparently. they hear you talking about how you think pedophiles should be placed into woodchippers. they're intelligent, so they know if they tell you they are one, you might kill them, or at least shun them from the town, and they'd lose their chance to do what they want to do - let's assume that's offend, since you cannot conceive of a person who has self control. congratulations, you have now created a scenario where you only find out about the child-diddler *after* they've touched your children

if you don't actively think people should be instantly ostracised and killed for being a particular way or having some desires, they might be more upfront about it, and you would then be more capable of protecting the children

when you loudly broadcast what someone has to say in order to fly under your radar, it's easy to fly under your radar
