If there’s already an EMT managing the situation first aiders are usually told to step back and let them deal with it. If they ignore that advice then, yeah, they’re idiots.

Yeah probably a bad example, but hopefully my point got across, if the person is fucked without your intervention, and you try, it should be really, really hard to nail you for harm unless you do something really fucking stupid.
