@loveFromBirkenau @PonyPanda @LukeAlmighty @alyx @dave @Bill_Boone @Alex I think we all vehemently agree that the 6 million number is a rough estimate, no more than that. Or, for a more current example, just look at the number of killed soldiers as claimed by Ukraine and as claimed by Russia. There is probably not even malice there, both sides estimate using their own methods and are off from each other by a factor from 5 to 10 in the direction they like to be off in.

Even if we assume the 6 million number is at the center (i.e. "unbiased"), that still allows the real amount to be in the range from 2 to 20 billions. If we assume it is "anywhere", anything from 600k to 60M is possible.

Another "counting error" could be in who you consider a Jew and who not. The NSDAP had a vested interest to claim most of the killed were Jews to justify their actions consistently with their ideology. Like, I knew people who had been threatened to end up in a camp if they "keep spreading Jewish thought", even though they were not Jewish at all, just complaining about the government. Maybe some of those were counted in this number too.

None of this means it didn't happen though. But getting accurate numbers is painfully hard to impossible.
