American politics is a result of an Urban rural divide. Cities above 500K are almost always Liberal, suburban and rural areas are almost always conservative... except that's because it's actually a White vs everyone else divide, with the minor (and shrinking) ethnic enclaves that vote for the GOP because they really hate communists or something like that.
