The University of Edinburgh is to train staff to become “decolonisation transformation leads” after a review found that academics had helped to shape and develop the racist ideologies used to justify slavery and imperialism. The institution ordered a peer-review study into its own history of racism after the Black Lives Matter movement. The work, which cost £359,000 to complete, found that Edinburgh became a “haven” for professors who developed theories of white supremacism in the 18th and 19th centuries and helped to create “racial pseudo-sciences” that placed Africans at the bottom of a bogus hierarchy.
