They are the ones with money, and even if you work for someone else, they are the ones calling the shots and cutting the checks.

I almost went to work for a place that has semi-recently been in the news for getting hacked by a former employee; the place was all right but it was on-site only and after spending time in New York I was unwilling to ever move there or reenter the city.
