@fiore@brain.worm.pink XMPP has evolved far past just instant messaging. Many people are using the protocol now to make modern social software with it, which includes things like stories I would assume.
While I primarily use it for instant messaging I don't think this is a bad thing. Modern software being developed using XMPP will make it stay relevant and also able compete with proprietary platforms. It won't stay in the past like IRC did.
