@fiore@brain.worm.pink Many existing messengers have this feature so they made a XEP for it. I don't believe this XEP is accepted yet however.

@fiore@brain.worm.pink Of course clients can implement XEPs that aren't officially approved yet.

@fiore@brain.worm.pink XMPP has evolved far past just instant messaging. Many people are using the protocol now to make modern social software with it, which includes things like stories I would assume.
While I primarily use it for instant messaging I don't think this is a bad thing. Modern software being developed using XMPP will make it stay relevant and also able compete with proprietary platforms. It won't stay in the past like IRC did. -

@SuperDicq seems like an incredibly weird feature for an xmpp client to have ngl

@fiore@brain.worm.pink But the chance of other people's clients receiving them properly will be lower of course.

@fiore@brain.worm.pink Many decent clients that support excellent encryption already exist for XMPP.
As much as I like simple stuff you can't argue that objectively IRC is stuck in the past because of this decision. The userbase of IRC isn't growing. -

@SuperDicq the one thing that xmpp needs to “stay relevant” are decent clients that support decent encryption , not stories , although sure im not opposed to them being there i just found it a little funny :P
also irc isnt stuck in the past , its a simple protocol by design , and even the modern versions dont wanna change that , and that shows in the quality of the software written for it . irc is genuinely a joy to use even now

@fiore@brain.worm.pink I personally think Gajim is pretty good, but at least we can agree that Matrix is not the solution.

@SuperDicq omemo1 is fine but conversations not implementing the newer standard is holding everything back and it sucks . clients in general suck . especially compared to irc ones
senpai is a joy to use . catgirl is a joy to use . profanity makes me want to punch thru my monitor . gajim is one of the clunkiest pieces of software ive ever used . dino is .. eh . conversations sucks . its all bad and i really hope it gets better because matrix is definitely not the solution to this problem
