Before a final exam, another TA and I had identical grades. We each missed one question on the final. I got an A. She got a B.
When she complained, he found her test and asked her what grade he'd given her. She said, "B." He wrote "B" on top of the paper and handed it to her. No other notes.
It took her about a year and a half to get that grade corrected. I don't know what became of him. She became a department chair, so that was a hard-fought victory for her.
Back in the distant past, my mother and father had the same experience in a college class. The professor's expressed reasoning, as handed down to me (there might have been editing here) was that, "Husbands should always get better grades than their wives."
