     Before a final exam, another TA and I had identical grades. We each missed one question on the final. I got an A. She got a B.

     When she complained, he found her test and asked her what grade he'd given her. She said, "B." He wrote "B" on top of the paper and handed it to her. No other notes.

     It took her about a year and a half to get that grade corrected. I don't know what became of him. She became a department chair, so that was a hard-fought victory for her.

     Back in the distant past, my mother and father had the same experience in a college class. The professor's expressed reasoning, as handed down to me (there might have been editing here) was that, "Husbands should always get better grades than their wives."

     Unreal and too real at the same time.

     That language proved your point--racism is a serious and ongoing problem
     Trying to silence a Black woman's voice is never ok and using abusive language like that certainly is a reveal to everyone hearing it...I hope there was pushback from people within earshot.

     (I've been called some rather ...ummm. .. "interesting" names but as a white woman I have the option to use my privilege to retort with a humiliating comeback when necessary, many others don't)

     OTOH, I faced zero racism or misogyny in my studies, and was teaching greatly due to the good graces of professors who weren't judging me based on societal prejudices that became norms. I was more than fortunate, which is a damn shame. The playing field should be level. It's still a mountain range in many places. Hello schools bending knee to Trump.

     @steter Absolutely true as well. Gender takes a back seat when race is involved, so I think about gender less as it applies to me. I have a similar story. 5 students write a Poli Sci 5 pager together. Same exact text. 4 are Black, including me and one is my white boyfriend, now husband. He got an A and we 4 all got an A-. @SnowyCA @clayrivers @alexadeswift
