just the other day NeoTokyo (and other Source 2006 era games, which lack a Linux build) would get you VAC kicked (with a connection error) from Steam servers and it turns out you need Proton Experimental because "durr you're supposed to use the Linux build"

By the time we figured this out we had mostly stopped playing it for the night.

Saying it just works is like saying Nissan CVTs are fixed now.
