And then AT&T (being retarded, which is the AT&T baseline) spun off the "not profitable" Bell Labs into Lucent.

A couple of years later, they realized that the only innovation inside the company came from the group they just got rid of, so they bought ORL (where VNC was born) and renamed it AT&T Labs. Everyone that came over with ORL brushed up their resume, because working for AT&T is one step up from working for pajeets. (and these days, zero steps up.)

Since then, pretty much nothing new has come out of AT&T.
