I told her if she wanted to run Ubuntu that she was on her own and it was mostly fine until we hit a power-outage and her machine wouldn't come up any more. The Ubuntu installer gave her a 512MB /boot and its auto-updater drops kernels into /boot and then never deletes them; /boot filled up and the new kernels couldn't be installed but Ubuntu still updated the bootloader (and the only option was the latest kernel instead of something sensible like one menu entry per installed kernel).
