Agreed, and I would go a bit further. I think Trump has vigorously exploited tendencies toward civility as he seized ever more power.

It's been more than 10 years now that his firehose of awfulness has been met by Democrats mostly with the quiet decorum of the previous era. At the same time the media has both-sides and filtered and sanewashed to appear fair.

I firmly believe that if we had all followed Godley's example (in October 2016!) the world would be much better off.
