- Embed this notice@cjd @nobody Well, you do see a lot about Jefferson Davis in the history books. History is, nowadays, preachy and over-simplified, starting during the Cold War and all the FDR and successors cramming the public school system.
My grandfather, in a very poor and rural high school, learned Latin, because the school taught Latin, and got a chunk of his history by reading Marcus Aurelius. (He says that he and his friends had made a list of words they couldn't find in the school's dictionary and went to visit the college library to look them up; the words all turned out to be curses.)
