Introducing iodine to the salt used for canning and processing food is why nobody today has goiters (iodine deficiency enlarged thyroid) today without a serious issue. We don't know of all the other second and third order effects from it, but that's the thing about most hormone systems in the body. To that point, we do know that a lot of the chemicals that leech from plastics and pesticides are endocrine disruptors and often xenoestrogens. Interesting that there's not many xenoandrogens...
