Can anyone recommend an application for planning the layout of rooms, like where to put different furniture? For Linux or web.
Would appreciate if I can write inn the length of different walls, and then create boxes representing furniture by writing in the numbers of their long and short side, and the boxes correspond in their size then to the walls and can be moved around. As simple as possible.

@mtjm I was thinking of using Inkscape, but I have no idea how to make lines by just typing in the number there. But then again now I've tried both floorplaner and sweethome3d after suggestion from others, and I can't find it there either. I just have to drag and always spend a ton of time getting the line to stop at exactly the correct number for every single wall, and the same for the furniture, which I also have to select from a long list, and it's driving me crazy.

@forteller If it's just a 2D top-view plan, then any vector graphics software should work? I would use Inkscape (or maybe even FontForge if I had much more recent experience with it).
It would need boxes for areas with electrical outlets and anything else that might lead to vertical issues. For a kitchen with wall-mounted furniture a 3D view (or multiple projections) might be necessary.

@forteller I think I tried to use FreeCAD for this several years ago. It's likely capable of that and more, but any CAD software probably requires more effort to learn than performing the whole would I could plan in an apartment.
I think I successfully planned it using graph paper and a pencil, while for incremental changes a tape measure is sufficient.

@mtjm But at least those other tools shows me how large the lines are, which it seems to me Inkscape does not do
