      @atomicpoet Not included but often promoted as a philosophical sibling protocol to the #Fediverse is #Matrix.

      I know #MicroBlog is also popular, although it's more of a centralized application that partially supports #ActivityPub (basically what #Tumblr is trying to become).

      #Plume still has an active user base despite not being actively supported.

      I wish #Diaspora supported ActivityPub, but fortunately, there are alternatives like #Friendica that do.

      @paul @atomicpoet Yep! I created a landing page for my #Matrix server (under the same domain) at https://www.darnell.ooo (my Matrix handle is @darnell:shh.darnell.ooo for what it’s worth).

      @darnell

      Hi there! ?

      "Not included but often promoted as a philosophical sibling protocol to the #Fediverse is #matrix "

      I'm curious whether you have created your own Matrix instance/server? This is also a really interesting federated service.

      @atomicpoet

      @paul I did not use this method, but here is a guide for installing #Matrix using #Python / #Synapse: https://matrix-org.github.io/synapse/latest/

      After chatting with @matrix over email I opted for the managed hosting option using Element (https://element.io) which starts at $5 per month (I am on the $15 per month plan which means I can add 4 others if I desire).

      Avoid using the https://Marrix.org domain & use a custom domain instead.

      1. Element | Secure collaboration and messaging
        Element is a Matrix-based end-to-end encrypted messenger and secure collaboration app. It’s decentralised for digital sovereign self-hosting, or through a hosting service such as Element Matrix Services. Element operates on the open Matrix network to provide interoperability and easy connections.

      @darnell How did you find the installation process? I haven't read about it in much detail.

      If I understand correctly, you woould essentially use your Matrix server to "federate" with other Matrix servers?

      So if the company I work for sets up Matrix, I could just join the "company" rooms using my own Matrix server? Is that how this works?
