I've been very careful in how I approach pixelfed development in regards to Instagram and their ToS/trademarks.
This is why you can't crosspost, or otherwise access IG apis via Pixelfed.
They are grasping at straws at this point, along with banning Pixelfed urls, this behavior is desperate.
We must be doing something right ?

I wonder #Instagram stopped doing this as it was raising too much attention about #Pixelfed‽ I guess them labeling it as “an affiliate link” was a way to try to discourage people from posting links without raising media attention like #Twitter (latter said Fediverse links were full of malware or something stupid).

@felixtheanimator @dansup I suggest using managed hosting. I use Fedi Monster (https://Fedi.monster) who handles the technical details so I can just focus on snapping pictures on #Pixelfed.
They currently are not accepting signups for new clients, but if you live in the European Union ?? then you can contact @weingaertner_it who can setup a Pixelfed account for you.

@felixtheanimator @dansup @weingaertner_it I know @Cloud68 is considering #Pixelfed (as well as #Mastodon) as an option but they have not released a time table as to when they will launch.
Hmmm…I wonder if @jan might consider embracing Pixelfed‽ He has the skills & technology to pull it off. ?
But yeah, there is a huge need for Manage Pixelfed Hosting services right now.

Due to its open API, a custom #Pixelfed instance would be popular amongst professional photographers, artists & media companies too!

The main challenge of offering #feviverse powered instances to others (with admin rights and everything) is not technical, but legal. The strugle of content moderation and everything related to it real :)

@Cloud68 @felixtheanimator @dansup @weingaertner_it @jan I am not sure about European law, but maybe you can have individuals & companies who pay for an instance sign a contract making them legally liable for any content uploaded.
You could also have them sign up for a DMCA (https://www.copyright.gov/dmca-directory/) like service in Europe which would protect Cloud68 legally.

I believe Instagram removed this “affiliate link warning” for Pixelfed after people complained.
You can post Pixelfed links on Instagram now (I just just checked & it's fine now).

@jsit @dansup Links are not hyperlinked, but people can still copy & paste them online into a web browser. I did remember seeing people report on this happening, but I think Instagram quickly removed to affiliate link warning in order to avoid being associated with Elon Musk.

@darnell @dansup Why was it flagged as an affiliate link warning? How many people did this affect? Where was the link being posted? (You can’t post links in Instagram comments or image descriptions.) Was it a link in a Story?
