Hélène (helene@p.helene.moe)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 08:53:05 JST Hélène @disarray why? how did that end up happening to the point where people became unable to read it, considering how widespread it still is in the rest of the world? wouldn't the older people still write that way too? -

pettanko (pettanko@bae.st)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 08:55:52 JST pettanko @helene we're taught it in elementary school and then never required to use it again, so for many it feels pointless unless you have a particular affinity for it. Hélène likes this. -

welt (w@arachnid.town)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 08:56:56 JST welt @helene I'm Canadian and they teach it here. It's just objectively hard to read. Especially since people write it so differently. Hélène likes this. -

Hélène (helene@p.helene.moe)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 08:57:57 JST Hélène @w it's harder than non-cursive, but i think it really depends on how you learned it and how familiar you are with it
but again, i can read some pretty wild cursive stuff -

orekix@shitposter.club's status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 08:59:46 JST orekix @helene anyone can but it's not the best pen for it because it made writing it more difficult due to strain on the hand and thicker strokes that made it more difficult to read Hélène likes this. -

hirohito (hiro@epic.meme.moe)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 09:00:51 JST hirohito @helene@p.helene.moe @disarray@pl.nulled.red why?Nothing to write in cursive anymore.how did that end up happening to the point where people became unable to read itLack of exposure. Basically nothing besides brand names are written in cursive. (I was never taught cursive at school but I can read it because of reading old stuff written in cursive.)wouldn't the older people still write that way too? They do, but you don't get much handwritten stuff anymore. Maybe on a birthday card but that's once a year.

laguna.cafe (lagunacafe@libretooth.gr)'s status on Monday, 22-Aug-2022 10:10:38 JST laguna.cafe @helene american schools are majorly underfunded, teachers overworked and overpaid, they have to meet standardized testing metrics and other things, so the cursive teaching is usually very rushed, and like other things like math, unnecessarily stressful on the students.
