@CrushBead@coolboymew I know and I know. I'm just saying I'll gladly use my expertise as an actual electrician to make them for people dumb enough to want them.
@nerthos@coolboymew You don't need an electrician to make them. You need a pair of wire strippers, a screwdriver, and boredom. If you want to get into the real nigger shit you need to make them with these.
@nerthos@Alex@coolboymew Why would you do that? Like a small gen isn't going to have the wattage to do jack shit for an entire home. If you try you are probably going to fuck up delicate electronics like a computer or server. If you are going to lay a concrete foundation for a LP tank and a large generator then you may as well hardwire that shit in for safety and reliability specifically for the sort of situation which you would have to use your own power source.
@CrushBead@Alex@coolboymew I never said it's a great idea, but it is an ok emergency solution to disconnect the main power line, unplug everything but the critical, and connect a generator to use the house wiring as a practical extension.
@nerthos@Alex@coolboymew Hardwire that shit in before you cause and electrical fire. Also solar battery banks are great even if you don't have a solar array. Deep cycle batteries hold a great charge and can hold things over while you switch to local power. Also it helps to have the main line on a breaker so that you don't leak power into the grid and waste your power.
@coolboymew@nerthos I do this, but with a 240v outlet so I can power both sides of the panel and deliver 4x as much power; only an issue on a split phase grid though. Of course if you forget to shut off the mains breaker, and you don't have a grid protection circuit, you can kill the guys trying to fix the downed line, so don't do that.
@coolboymew I assume connecting a generator to a house as mentioned somewhere else in the thread. But anyone with the knowledge to do that safely knows that those aren't sold and how to make them. If you connect a male-male extension to two outlets you'll just pop the breakers or fry the outlets if the breakers don't work, worst case scenario electric fire.
@CrushBead@ForbiddenDreamer@coolboymew My father also had someone tie a strong knot on a cable and tell him it should be safe as the power can't get through, as if it were a hose.
@ForbiddenDreamer@coolboymew@nerthos To be fair the carbon monoxide issue only becomes an issue when someone is retarded enough to have the generator indoors.
Example: I've seen idiots connect an unipolar wire as if it were a bipolar cable by splitting the wire at the middle and connecting one half to each terminal.
