Alexandre Oliva (lxo@gnusocial.net)'s status on Friday, 02-Dec-2022 09:31:13 JST Alexandre Oliva how are you responding to my posts? it doesn't look like you're using the "reply" feature, because they appear as so-called subtoots rather than as part of the same thread.
I'm asking because the other day someone complained that mastodon didn't support threads (long posts broken into multiple followups to the same post), and I thought maybe it was just that people didn't use the feature, because I know it's there. now I wonder if there's something in the interface that leads people away from using it, or whether you're intentionally avoiding followups, or something. I'm not familiar with the mastodon interface myself. thanks,-

Alexandre Oliva (lxo@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Dec-2022 05:02:51 JST Alexandre Oliva aah, sorry, I didn't realize you were not even using Mastodon
interestingly, your responses in this thread did not appear as standalone messages, but as part of the thread.
the plot thickens :-)
thanks for your info -

Alexandre Oliva (lxo@gnusocial.net)'s status on Sunday, 04-Dec-2022 05:10:46 JST Alexandre Oliva threads are formed as messages are posted in response to another. most interfaces I'm aware of group such messages so that they appear together in timelines. your response, as well as karl's, appear next to my initial question in my timeline.
subtoots are reactions posted as standalone messages, so as to separate them from a thread instead of keeping them together. they're used to avoid hijacking threads when going down a tangent, but also to allude to another thread without copying its participants. -

HAMMER SMASHED FILESYSTEM ?? (lkundrak@octodon.social)'s status on Sunday, 04-Dec-2022 05:10:48 JST HAMMER SMASHED FILESYSTEM ?? @lxo hi. Using mastodon, responding my clicking the back arrow button with "Reply" tooltip. I appear to be oblivious to what "subtoots" or "threads" are or that there are multiple ways to respond to things.
