@WeirdWriter When AI really started hitting earlier this year, the thing I was surprised to learn was that a ton of programmers--maybe even most of them--fucking hate coding. I don't know if they accidentally did well in an intro course and let it determine the rest of their lives, or if they just got into it because the job prospects looked good or what, but at least in my corner of the industry, programmers fucking hate coding.
I started college as a computer engineering major with the thought that I'd love hardware and tolerate programming, and got three months in and hated hardware so much I switched majors to psychology. But, I kept up with programming in my electives because I actually enjoyed it, and coming out of college and looking at the "experimental psychology" industry vs. "programming" and that was a real easy decision.
Now, the AI requirements at my job make me want to quit. I code in the evenings on my own time just to get my coding fix.
But almost all my coworkers? I think if they never had to look at another line of code, they'd be happy.
