@Em0nM4stodon Massachusetts is halfway there. Our wiretapping laws prohibit audio recordings of people without their knowledge. We just need a corresponding law to counteract secret video. But, I'm pretty sure most these surveillance glasses people aren't bothering to turn off the microphones, so can be hit with the wiretapping laws.
@MannyDexter@blogdiva Yeah, I believe that's the video where he brings up that we could replace all corn farms for ethanol--not corn for food, just the corn we grow to throw ethanol in our gas--with solar panels and supply ALL of the electricity for the ENTIRE United States.
@inthehands Ah, I see what you're saying. Yeah, they could do that. But, that would sacrifice some of their leverage to fund ICE/CBP, and I think we all know they care more about using that leverage than funding the TSA.
@inthehands They would have to kick it back to the House for another vote there, so they can't solo it. And Trump still has to sign off on whatever both houses pass unless they can get a veto-proof majority in both houses.
@sidereal@kevinhippert@PetterOfCats@tante One of the most visible unions in the country is the WGA (followed by SAG-AFTRA), which are basically the polar opposite of "working class interchangeable cogs".
Which isn't to say that tech and many other white collar industry workers don't see themselves as somehow set apart from "union" industries. I'm a tech worker myself (and would love to unionize), but there's definitely a culture among the workers that views unionization as a good thing for other people, "but not something WE need."
I have a feeling many are going to regret that stance when the layoffs hit.
