     Matrix is objectively shit compared to XMPP if your use-case is based on E2EE and maintaining a low profile. If you want to use a glorified chat protocol, sure.
     
     Now host Matrix yourself, and get back to me on what that's like.

     @subnetter @theorytoe @sam i did host matrix for a while when i had a domain. It was painless. I just used conduit, and aside from it taking a small while to support new room versions, it was fine.
     My use case isn't e2ee nor maintaining a low profile, it's just chatting with people from the fediverse. That's all, works well.

     @subnetter @theorytoe @sam but does it work? Trying to use xmpp sucked ass, so I wouldnt be surprised if nothing is saved because nothing is done.

     I'm not talking about hosting a single user instance. Prosody scales better hands down, is all I'm saying. And metadata isn't saved everywhere up the ass either.

     The UI/UX I think so too, but it's so bloated and full of constant notifications and popups. Even hosting a single user instance was a little painful for the specs I had hoped for.
