I worry that some people aren’t taking Omarchy seriously enough. It’s not just another Linux distro. It’s a well-orchestrated campaign to centralize power and influence within the Linux FOSS ecosystem. And it’s working.

Anyone paying attention to DHH and what he stands for can see what’s going on here. When the guy who thinks that brown people don’t belong in society hires the guy who thinks trans people shouldn’t exist, you can see where this is going.

@neatnik Make a better product. Just from looking at the incoming flow of money, it seems that there's lots of interest in what DHH is doing. No wonder investors are throwing money at a guy that wants to drop half of the desktop Linux foundation, when the rest is stuck bikeshedding in Wayland issues about how a protocol telling compositors about round window edges or screen positioning should work.

@phnt @neatnik institutional capture is a very interesting topic to me because it always happens and it always goes the same way. The linux community as is has largely become a nepotistic circle jerk only interested in maintaining their own fiefdoms

I have to give it to them, "post-meritocracy" is a brilliant way to reframe cronyism.

@KaiserKitty @neatnik "its just doing nice things people want that you could theoretically do yourself" is always what the enthusiasts say and why linux has remained obscure and user hostile forever

Everything youre saying is exactly why people want change

@RustyCrab @neatnik just look at how it actually works and you can see how stupid this is. People only defend because they are a brand new to Linux Redditor who wowed by fancy ricing.

Omarchy is doing nothing special. Its auto arch install is just like existing ones. You can configure hpyrland yourself. DHH has just automated all of this with fragile shell scripts. There is no special sauce here it’s just simplifying the easy stuff at the cost of having a very opinionated default which is hard to customize. I just personally avoid these one man custom rice distros. Same reason I tell people not to use nobara, you are begging to get screwed when they start making their own opinionated changes.

I think finding a guys shells scripts over the actual packages he’s taking from is retarded and reveals this all as a dumb vanity project.

@KaiserKitty @neatnik I have no opinion on it yet because I haven't tried it. What I do know is I cannot take the word of linux enthusiasts. I can count on one hand the number of times they've told me correct information about the ecosystem

their platforms do not work despite decades of them insisting they do and I'm just doing it wrong

@RustyCrab @neatnik omoarchy works worse then its peers tho. Installing something like cachyos is just as easy without also being a dumb fucks vibe coded shell scripts run by systemd. Debian and fedora work just fine if you can copy a few commands to install nvidia drivers I guess.

Which is easier then hoping the shitty shell scripts get patched

@phnt @KaiserKitty @RustyCrab @neatnik yeah, it also has its own mirrors, and stuff.
the llm integration thing is a good thing these days, you can just fix issues. some guy had his mac looking at a mirror to self debug gpu support for linux

@KaiserKitty @RustyCrab @neatnik It does have integrations with LLMs in the system and similar. It's not just an auto-installer for Arch. Whether that is added value someone wants is debatable.

This isn’t about Linux. It’s about building and systematically growing a technology-backed ideology of hate. It’s about creating a space in FOSS where hate can flourish, and overriding systems of accountability by making them irrelevant.
