@RustyCrab @npc hence tranny dominance of foss spaces (especially implementing needless bureaucracy) over the last 10+ years.
If anything, ai agents allow productive white men to regain control of these processes.

@RustyCrab i realize i'm very much not a linux nerd but the elitism pisses me off to no end. most of these people have their heads so far up their asses that they convinced themselves that basic accessibility is bad.

@RustyCrab i've said it before but if someone were to start making a serious foss video editor, not like kdenlive but one that could be used for actual professional work in the vein of resolve or avid media composer, i don't know how to write software but i'll do the next best thing and throw money at them.

@npc discoverability of features will be the issue if you dont have source code access (you dont). Agents arent capable of capturing UI feel nor testing that very well (thats actually one of the problems im working on for my job)

There might be SOME way of describing it to them that they can understand

huh, i thought models had vision. I actually fixed a thing in project $1 with a model that didn't have vision. The thing straight up decoded png and interpreted it, and fixed a bug. Saw someone else go through the same thing but locally because they forgor to enable vision for the model (cli flags)

i shoulda check the chat for what i did, but i was amazed at the result. I also had to fix a thing (fingerprint sensor) and the thing decoded PNGs into ascii to understand if the images where correct and well, they were. FWIW my fingerprint sensor is now usable, ahah.

@mischievoustomato they do have vision but they can only operate on a big wordy description of what they are seeing. If you get really specific they can try to measure things like pixels on the screen but its challenging

@npc @RustyCrab its a basic lack of empathy.

there's been writing about the mechanisms. once you're used to slav jank as a daily process, the jank becomes a "broken staircase," and you become blind to it. its like how math majors start every explanation by assuming you already have the PhD and the way wikipedia talks about math.

in the 90s you had a lot of firms with a UX team. the UX teams job is to go draw up interaction models and do those interviews with users and come back with reports. windows 95 used to do many of those (consequently, one of the most beloved versions of windows to ever exist.) macOS used to do those to an extent, and Sun used to pay for it (MATE, nee Gnome 2, was a result of this, still considered one of the more usable and friendly of the DEs)

in my experience FOSS teams are unable to interpret why their own decisions are bad (common flaw) but also refuse to acknowledge when *other people* tell them that it is bad.

some of it makes sense when you realize almost all of this space is DHH's admitted "you can come along for the ride" and not actually "a commons project to make the best x"

@RustyCrab @npc there are people who hate DHH because he's pretty right learning with sympathies to white glorification and there are people who dislike him because he stopped doing a good job at engineering after Rails 1 :comfyshrug:

hyprland is like that. vaxry has said some dumb teenager shit as a teenager but hyprland legitimately also does absolutely unhinged things it has no reason to do.
