There is a Swiss guy who insulted Nyepi and Balinese people and he’s in trouble there.
Many of his compatriots are focused on how he’s ’probably not actually really Swiss’ (even though his name is Luzian Andrin Zgraggen)

@skinnylatte I dislike the severe consequences of these provocations... but I think I hate those stupid, arrogant, racist, disrespectful provocations even more.
@edgeofeurope a Balinese senator invited him to her home to explain and apologize. He doubled down and insulted her / Hinduism further. That’s when they charged him
@skinnylatte And this absurd obsession with ethnicity. What can I say.
@edgeofeurope I follow a Turkish Swiss comedian. He loves to say he loves Switzerland because they’re racist also to other Swiss people and it feels more fair.
@CStamp a Balinese senator invited him to her home to explain and apologize. He doubled down
@skinnylatte "The court found that Zgraggen posted the content even after staff at the villa where he was staying explained the rules."
If he had just gone to the beach and shut up, he probably would've been fine. These people who break rules and post about doing it are next level asking for it.
Travellers need to act like guests in the countries they visit. This guy acted like a loud American.

@CStamp Sounds like a Swiss excuse to me “Zgraggen said he had never intended to insult Nyepi or the Balinese people”. There’s absolute asshats in every country¹, Switzerland is no different. Good that they caught him and he has to suffer consequences for what he did.

¹ eg the French tourists offroading in Iceland
@Kensan @CStamp well the obvious connotation is that they think it’s an immigrant, not a ‘real’ Swiss person
