   i was in an indian restaurant talking to an indian friend about getting an indian visa.

   an american dude overheard and said 'omg getting an indian tourist visa TRAUMATIZED me'

   we both LOL-ed (does he want to know what WE go through with US visas??)

     Also a couple of years wait to get a tourist visa in many Indian cities now

     @skinnylatte getting a work visa to enter India was the hardest visa experience I’ve had so far as a us citizen… but I would never compare it to the shit I hear non-us citizens have to go through just to visit the us

     @skinnylatte Did it get so much more difficult? When I went to India in 2010 I think it was „fill out this one online form“.

     Which had 3 genders, which I thought was cool, even though they were „male, female, transgender“.

     @skinnylatte once had to get a business visa to India from Belgium to Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai (hiring tech developers) - actually went to the embassy in Brussels and they looked totally shocked as no one applies in person, everyone 'in the know' uses a broker

     @MatWright Is it so difficult to apply for an Indian visa now?

     I only ever used a broker for the Saudi Arabian visa. Everyone says it’s hopeless without. One has to show up in person anyway.

     @skinnylatte Oh gosh. This poor traumatized USian :-P

     Even going to the US, which is visa-free for Germans (for tourism under 90 days), requires filling out an online form + paying a fee with a credit card (credit cards are uncommon here).

     @GreenSkyOverMe also I think it’s really hard to rent a car in the US without a credit card (most car rental insurance is tied to credit cards)
