> During its fiscal year 2026 Q1 earnings briefing, Sony Group Corporation chief financial officer Lin Tao addressed the recent announcement that Sony Interactive Entertainment will end physical game disc production for PlayStation games starting in January 2028, stating that there were “various reasons” behind the decision and that, despite “various opinions” and “strong views,” the plan will ‘cautiously move forward.’

@lain I can understand where a lot of those complains comes from as a lot of people thinks the physical media is ownership on modern consoles but since PS3, even physical games have to phone home.
IMO the solution would be the SKG movement or similar but for some reason a lot of people who are vocal against sony, were vocal against SKG in the past toolainy likes this. -

If plastic is bad, then isn't the phase out of tons of physical media a good thing ?
that is tons of oil not going into plastic, and tons of plastic not making nanoplastic in our bodies, and tons of plastic not, eventually, winding up in landfills ?

@failedLyndonLaRouchite i don't really care about that, they are winding production down because nobody is buying it anymore. and why would they? nobody is buying CDs anymore, either.
