In the "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean there aren't microphones everywhere" category, Trent Park, a mansion bugged from top to bottom that was used to house (and monitor) captured Nazi commanders, is now a museum in London.

They did the same thing (at Farm Hall, a different mansion) with Nazi nuclear scientists. One of the first things they recorded was the scientists dismissing the possibility they were being listened to. "The British aren't that clever".

@20002ist @SteveBellovin Yes, I'm assuming a hypothetical of it being in the US, 2026, and the US fighting the Nazis as opposed to being the Nazis.

@mattblaze For the former, I suspect one has to look at the Geneva Conventions; for the latter, I'd guess yes, unless barred by the former

@SteveBellovin @mattblaze LOAC is not my bag, but if they’re held outside the US I don’t see a basis for an REP. Maybe the Geneva Conventions confer certain rights and protections; I’d be astonished if any of those are framed in the terminology of the Katz test.

The surveilance nerd in me wants to know if captured Nazi prisoners of war have a reasonable expectation of privacy, and if the FISA court would have granted a warrant.
