@torsten_torsten It looks like you restricted access to your whole account, which takes precedence over individual post's permissions. It's the equivalent of Tiwtter's account protection where only the people and servers who received your posts because they follow you can have access to them.

@grischa @torsten_torsten The settings in Settings -> Account -> Security and Privacy is called "Hide your profile details from anonymous viewers?" and the description reads:
Anonymous visitors will only see your profile picture, your display name and the nickname you are using on your profile page. Your public posts and replies will still be accessible by other means.

@hypolite @torsten_torsten You mean, there are account settings producing posts marked as public not being public? That would be unexpected IMHO.
I checked my profile setting and I only find restrictions on handling follower requests but not about restricting public posts of me. What config is it?
Thanks! :-)

@grischa @torsten_torsten Yes, you got it, despite the name and the description being both unspecific and confusing!
That’s why we need more eyes on these behaviors and people to write more sensible descriptions!

@hypolite @torsten_torsten Ah okay. This was a misunderstanding on my site I guess. This only relates to my profile page when watched as an "unknown user" (meaning not with a fediverse account).
But they are still distributed to other servers as public posts? So this is only a restriction on my profile page, but the posts may be visible in some context on other servers, right?

@grischa To be clear, the behavior can also be changed if it's too confusing and no description can actually help that.

@torsten_torsten What is the translation where the description says "nevertheless"? The base language is supposed to read "by other means" which is slightly different however nonspecific.

@hypolite Thanks for having a look at that!
I thought this privacy setting ('hide profile details from unknown viewers') meant to just restrict the view on to my profile page. Especially as it says there: "Anonymous visitors of your profile will see only your profile picture, your name and your nickname. Your public comments will be visible nevertheless. "
And it seems as if the above mentioned post shows up in the notifications of my contacts but they can't see it, when they click on it. Quite often people who follow me, tell me the get an "access denied".
Anyway, i will change the privacy setting and see what happens in the future=)

@martin Then we have to do something, either of:
- Still display public posts when accessed directly (in the /display page)
- Improve the language of the description to precise that public posts will be visible on the servers they were delivered to.

@hypolite @torsten_torsten Just compared the default english version with the german one. Yes, the translation is plain wrong. It says literally "your public postings and comments are still visible".

@hypolite In my opinion the former solution makes much more sense then the latter one. I guess nearly everyone would expect a post marked as public to be publicly accessible.

@hypolite "What is the translation where the description says "nevertheless"? " It just says: "Deine öffentlichen Beiträge und Kommentare werden weiterhin sichtbar sein." Meaning that my public articles and comments will be visible furthermore/still.
