@kleisli Yes, on a case-by-case basis, we will remove hashtags that people ask about. It can be shocking for people who are the exclusive users of a hashtag to see a hashtag feed page like https://mastodon.social/tags/evanpoll that only includes their own posts. I'd rather remove a few hashtags than make people feel uncomfortable and unsafe. We won't do this often, though, especially if there are multiple users of the hashtag.

@evan does that mean hashtags can be "owned" and requested to delist? IMO public and indexable post are public and indexable by definition, including any hashtags.

Yes, user domain blocks and server domain blocks work fine for tags.pub.
You also won't get data added to tags.pub unless you opt in, or your server is opted in:
This is a situation in which Alice does not want other people using their hashtag, even if Alice has the service blocked.
I agree that this is somewhat unfair to the diminishingly small number of non-Alice people who want to use the LearnLockpickingWithAlice hashtag.

@evan there is the point, it is not *their* hashtag. Nobody owns a hashtag. And I don't want to provoke now, but nobody could stop me from using lockpickingwithalice as a hashtag. May be there are other people named Alice that pick locks?
But this is not about this specific hashtags, I just think users that don't want that their usage of hashtags appear on tags.pub should use the provided optout options and don't be able to block hastags completely.

@kleisli I agree, but sometimes when you run a public service, you make compromises to make it easier for people to live with.

@evan If Alice wants these hashtags not to be shared by #tagspub, it's entirely reasonable to remove those feeds. But I think you'll need to establish a general rule, and I'm not sure what that would be...
Maybe something like: "If a hashtag is rarely used outside a small group, then members of the group may make a request and the tags.pub will generally remove the feed for that hashtag."
