    THIS

    “Our new product is too dangerous to release” is always marketing. Always always.

    If it’s an AI vendor, then always always always.

      It’s useful (but difficult!) to remember that we live in a bizarro world where the way companies generate profit for the people who run them is not actually by creating useful things, or by acquiring customers, or even by making revenues exceed costs…

      …but rather by getting the people who have large amounts of investment money to be irrationally excited for a longer period of time than it takes to cash out.

      @JackMexa4 @inthehands You'd think the extremely expensive degrees would buy you some finance wizzardry, when it only buys you access to the other moneyed guys.

      The upper-ranked Ivies definitely function this way for the oligarch class, regardless of the quality of the education they may or may not provide.

      They are not smarter than the rest of us either, not even after attending those best schools. (Gosh what one of the really brilliant Black or Latino kids would do with such an education!) But anyway, some folks in the moneyed class are pretty dim, and most of them are so extremely selfish that they’re evil.

      @JackMexa4 @dacig
      Harvard is an…interesting case study in that respect: there’s a traunche of students (double-digit percentage) there whose families are poor and they’re going on a full ride — some of them the very Black and Latino students you’re thinking of. There’s also a traunche (double-digit percentage) whose parents aren’t just rich, but have more money than anyone you’ll ever meet in your life — not the 1%, but the 0.01%. Last I saw the stats, the school actually has kind of a U-shaped family income curve.

      It’s an open question who’s pulling one over on whom: Are the nepo babies just a funding machine to educate the disadvantaged? Or are the scholarship students window dressing for a oligarchic hedge fund dressed up as a school? You can make both cases.

      Germany may have just thrown a Stilson wrench into this system, at least for our AI bro buddies:

      I see this as potentially very good news.

      Others are echoing these thoughts, and not just random Mastodon people who are just a foot with an eyeball on top:
