    wrt asexuality: The majority of asexuals I see are artists or craftsmen of some kind. Libido is often said to be the driving force behind art; so is asexuality the result of the human sex drive being hijacked by art and/or craft?

      @newmodel freud had a similar idea: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sublimation_(psychology)

      and some non-asexual artists/thinkers have intentionally abstained from sex, believing it would help them in their work

        Sublimation (psychology)
        In psychology, sublimation is a mature type of defense mechanism, in which socially unacceptable impulses or idealizations are transformed into socially acceptable actions or behavior, possibly resulting in a long-term conversion of the initial impulse. Sigmund Freud believed that sublimation was a sign of maturity and civilization, allowing people to function normally in culturally acceptable ways. He defined sublimation as the process of deflecting sexual instincts into acts of higher social valuation, being "an especially conspicuous feature of cultural development; it is what makes it possible for higher psychical activities, scientific, artistic or ideological, to play such an 'important' part in civilized life." Psychology textbooks present a similar view, stating that sublimation is "translating a distressing desire into an acceptable form." It occurs when displacement involves "the transformation of sexual or aggressive energies into culturally acceptable, even admirable, behaviors," and "serves a higher cultural or socially useful purpose, as in the creation of art or inventions". @f0x @newmodel Being uninterested in people is not a thing that necessarily causes those people to be uninterested in sex.

      @newmodel some forms of autism, aka hyperfocusing on craft, also presents with asexuality. Stopping the art would not give them a libido, they are just genuinely not interested in people, only craft.

      @p @newmodel it's what I was alluding to with the statement. Asexuals are typically only interested in the people part.

      @p @newmodel also, if we're not talking about fucked up pathways.. asexuality is most often caused by chemical imbalance due to some depressive disorders, it's one of the way it presents, lowered or halted libido. Artists and craftsmen are typically depressive, maybe this is causing the pattern.

      @f0x @newmodel Artists are all depressed but they are also all into degeneracy (read: "good times"). I think you're probably correct in the general case, though.
