I learned firsthand why Windows NT moved graphics back into the kernel with version 3, lol. It seems basically impossible to make a secure userland graphical system that performs acceptably. -

@sun the hardware doesn't help either, never did we get a nice interface for it, even with vulkan doing the right thing Blurry Moon likes this. -

This is relative. Modern CPUs can softdecode many codecs unimafinably fast compared to 30 years ago.
Ppl demand too much, that is. -

@i I'll share my lisp machine project soon, when I get windowing and filesystem working. I'm currently working on gdi-like graphical api.
files are going to eventually have a resource fork in them with typed data, similar to old mac hfs, so for example you could have a text file with embedded scheme blocks, similar to jupyter notebook
