I'm actually cool with people getting sectioned. The thing is, though, if this guy is a nutjob they will just let him go after so he can murder white women on buses.

He should have immediately asked for a lawyer, and repeatedly. That's all he should do over and over, until it's either provided or he has an opportunity to locate one. You don't talk at all until you get to counsel.

This guy clearly wasn't certified at the cafe, so it's reasonable for him to believe he passed that evaluation. Because he did. But after they spoke with his family he was placed on double secret probation? That sounds unreasonable. Especially after a month went by with no incidents.
And now some resident psychiatrist (a student) is trying to feed him some absolute horseshit. "We don't believe you're going to attend an appointment"?? WTF? He pulled over for the traffic stop, he met with a shrink at a cafe, don't sound like no flight risk to me.
The wannabe psychiatrist also really didn't like being recorded, and he lost his cool after "you're going to have to turn that off" was met with sound reasoning. Worth noting that he was also acutely aware that a previous interaction was also recorded.

And if you listen to the video, what happened is that the psych realized he hadn't been certified mid-stop. That's why he certified him. This is likely illegal under Canadian law. The certifying psych wasn't a witness to any behavior on which he could certify.

I don't believe a resident psychiatrist can certify either.

I bet grandma left him all of her money, and the family is trying to throw him in the wars to get control of it.

The fact the video got out tends to suggest he's OK. I wish I knew more so I could look deeper. In my opinion, he should have a payday coming.

But yeah, you're right. It is dystopian. It shouldn't have happened at all, and the psych should have his license pulled, and the officers should be canned.

No necessary. From the looks of it, "psychiatrist" just decided to fuck him over, because she(likely) saw his videos. "Talked with his family" might mean anything at all, just lying about it. Or asking if he was ever angry over anything, as a child, to which answer is yes, everyone was angry over something. And they dont even hide that "she looked at you once and decided that you are crazy".
